FROM ELIE TO ARNHEM

An illustrated lecture by military historian Iain Gale Wednesday 25th September, 6pm

On 23 September 1941 the Polish paratroops arrived in Fife.

Exactly three years later, on 23 September 1944 those same Poles were fighting for

their lives at Arnhem, desperately trying to save what was left of the British 1st

Airborne Division. This is their story.

Over those three years they became part of the community at Elie and Earlsferry,

some of them going on to marry local girls. The places where today locals walk their

dogs, play golf and socialise were the very places, unchanged today, where the Poles

trained for their ultimate test, liberating Holland from Nazi tyranny. Almost a

quarter of them, 434 men, would never return.

The evening will begin at 6pm with drinks and Iain will talk at 6.30pm, finishing

around 7.15 with plenty of time for questions and comments. Tickets are £10, with a

percentage going to a military veterans’ charity.

Entry is by pre-purchased ticket only and numbers are limited to 100 people. Email

iain.gale@yahoo.com for details.
